About Me
I am a passionate Visual Artist, Writer/ Blogger, Content Creator, Entertainer, and Activist. I was among the first to graduate Howard with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Humanities: Ancient to Modern, a concentration in Art, Archaeology, and Language, and a minor in the Art History Magna Cum Laude.
As a fine artist, I work in charcoal, watercolor, graphite, ink, acrylic painting, oil painting, ceramics, photography, metal (oxy-acetylene), and espresso (latte art) . In high school, I was winner of the National Cherry Blossom Festival Art contest for the high school division in 2011. I also had one of my digital photography pieces showcased at the Katzen Center the following year, winning another award at the City Wide Visual Arts Exhibition at American University. The same year, I was one of the 15th Anniversary Latino Art Beat Competition winners for best Latin American Poster Design.
I lived in Montreal for 2 years as a student at Concordia University, where my activism was at its peak through my volunteerism and involvement with the Cinema Politica Network, an organization whose mission it is to screen truth to power. I also volunteered at the People's Potato, a non-profit all vegan soup kitchen that serves over 300 meals a day to fight poverty in Quebec. Though I speak some French, my passion is Mandarin Chinese. Accordingly, I lived in China briefly in 2010 through America Promoting Studies Abroad (APSA). I returned to Beijing, China in 2014 as a District of Columbia delegate for the Annual International Sustainability Business Conference through Beijing Sustainability Youth Camp and Sisters Cities International sent by the US Department of State.
In 2014 I had the privilege of being involved with the Miss District of Columbia America Scholarship Organization through Miss America which dedicates its efforts to uplifting young women through public speaking, activism, philanthropy, and community outreach. Through the organization I also helped to raise money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) winning the 3rd Place Miracle Makers Award. In 2015, I was crowned Miss District of Columbia Sweetheart 2015.
I love using my art, writing and creative outlets to impact the community. My former platform was a program I began called Girl's Circular Wellness: teaching girls about mindfulness, self-actualization, body image, and fitness through yoga and hoop-dance. Through volunteerism, I maintain a close connection to Food Banks/Food Justice, Sustainability, Racial and Gender Equality, Health and Wellness, The Fight Against Poverty, Womens' Issues, and Cross Cultural Understanding through Immersion.
I humbly stand on the shoulders of ancestors who were dedicated to progress and advocacy. I hope to one day be a part of a global network of change-makers striving for a more equitable, functional, and sustainable world.
